A little bit about us…
My Name is Sylvie and I am the Creator of ‘The Holm Oak Trading Co’ ~ a small business born out of my love for creating and upcycling ~ with an Indian twist!
I first fell in love with Indian textiles when I travelled to North India back in 2013, I was amazed by the local artisans in the communities I visited, hand making textiles on the street. I filled my backpack as much as I could to bring home some of the special fabrics I found on my travels.
The first item I created was from an old Kurta tunic ~ I made a length of mini bunting and sold it on my depop store! It was from there that my product range began to grow to what it is today!
I started taking my creations to local markets, festivals and craft events. Here I am trading at one of my first events at The Garage - Chilwell →
Since 2019, My partner and I have been living on our narrowboat ‘The Holm Oak’ with our dog Badger! We had our boat shell built for us and have been slowly turning her into our dream home ever since.
I always knew I wanted to start selling my wares off the side of our narrowboat - so we even had ‘rails’ welded on the cabin top to hang clothing rails and shelves off!
We became roving canal traders in 2021 and started travelling across the UK canal network - opening up our shop wherever we could.
We plan our route at the beginning of the year and upload where you can find us on our ‘events’ page and we also sell our full range online.
We have absolutely loved this journey we have been on and can’t wait for what the future holds! Sylvie x
